Texas Alligators Are Out in Full Force Getting You to Slow Down
EAST TEXAS – Memorial Day weekend is here, and according to both the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, the roads are getting crowded not just with holiday travelers, but with full‑sized, attitude‑filled alligators who apparently didn’t get the memo about staying off the pavement.
Texas DPS kicked things off with a friendly reminder that Troopers are ready for anything this weekend ranging from traffic enforcement, drunk drivers, and the occasional reptile who decides the middle of the roadway is the perfect place for a sunbath. Their message was simple:
Slow down, buckle up, stay alert, and let the only wild things this weekend be the gators.
In Jasper County, deputies took that message to heart and assisted in taking a 9.5‑foot alligator into custody, off the road on FM 1013 West. Deputies Bradley Morgan, Vern Kaylor, and Clayton Daigle responded to the scene on May 20, where the gator was blocking traffic about a mile from the river. Because this is East Texas, the deputies didn’t just remove the gator.
They caught the gator with the assistance of Texas Parks & Wildlife.
After an interroGATOR asked question with no Miranda rights needed, the deputies handed the reptile over to Texas Game Wardens, who safely relocated him back to a more appropriate zip code. No InvestiGATORS were needed to be called to the scene where this instiGATOR.
The message behind the humor is serious:
Holiday weekends bring heavy traffic, unpredictable weather, and as we now know wild reptiles with no respect for lane discipline. DPS is urging drivers to slow down, stay sober, and keep their eyes open for anything unusual on the roadway… including a 9.5‑foot speed bump with teeth.
The apprehended alligator was later released with no need to call a bondsman. Remember all alligators are innocent until they are not.
