Student Found With A Gun At Willis High School
WILLIS, TEXAS — A student at Willis High School was detained Wednesday morning after an assistant principal discovered a gun inside the student’s backpack, according to statements from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and Willis ISD.
Campus officials and deputies emphasized that the weapon was immediately secured, the school remained safe, and no threat was made toward students or staff.
At 10:50 a.m., the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office was notified that a student had brought a firearm onto the Willis High School campus. Deputies responded immediately, and Major Crimes Detectives along with School Resource Deputies remained on scene throughout the investigation.
The student was detained without incident, and the school was placed into a secure posture while officials confirmed there was no ongoing danger.
Willis ISD reported that the gun was found during a routine backpack search conducted by an assistant principal. The firearm was confiscated immediately.
District officials stated that the student “reportedly didn’t know about the item,” though the matter is still under investigation. The district says the situation is being handled according to both the Student Handbook and Texas state law.
No threat was made toward students or teachers. Detectives are actively investigating how the weapon entered the campus. More information will be released as the investigation continues
Willis ISD urged families to remind students to check bags used for sports, hunting, or other leisure activities to ensure prohibited items are not accidentally brought to school.
