Filing Deadline for City Council Ends / Notice of Proposed Tax Increase

Huntsville, Texas – Yesterday the filing period for City Council ended at 5 PM. All four Council member at-large positions have an opponent running against the incumbent candidates.
Here is how this year’s election will look:

The City of Huntsville last week posted a notice stating their plan to increase property taxes on city residents.
According to the notice the proposed budget will increase by $1,409,670 or 15.57% from last years budget.
Only $187,906 or 2.1% of the budgets funds will come from new property added to the tax roll.
Huntsville residents are facing a significant tax increase, if this proposal goes through. A public hearing will be held on September 3, 2024, at 6:00 P.M. during the City Council meeting at the City of Huntsville Service Center Complex, 448 Highway 75 N, Huntsville, Texas, 77320.
