Conroe Police Investigating Threatening Communications Toward City Officials
CONROE, TEXAS — The Conroe Police Department has launched an active investigation into reports of threatening and harassing communications directed at City of Conroe elected officials and municipal staff, according to a statement released Thursday.
Police say investigators are working closely with county, state, and federal law enforcement partners to identify the source of the messages, preserve evidence, evaluate any potential safety risks, and determine whether criminal offenses have been committed. Officials emphasized that any necessary investigative, protective, or enforcement actions will be taken as the case develops.
In the release, the department underscored that while residents have broad constitutional protections to criticize government, petition elected officials, and participate in the democratic process, threats of violence are not protected speech.
“The Conroe Police Department recognizes and respects the constitutional rights of individuals to criticize government, express their views, petition elected officials, peacefully assemble, and participate in the democratic process,” the statement reads. “These freedoms are fundamental and will be protected, however threats of violence will not.”
Police also noted that elected officials and city employees must be able to perform their duties without facing intimidation, harassment, or unlawful behavior. Any reports of threatening conduct will be “taken seriously, thoroughly investigated, and addressed based on the facts, evidence, and applicable law.”
The department says the investigation remains ongoing, and additional information will be released when appropriate.
