Three Armed Mexican Nationals Arrested Near Texas–Mexico Border
PRESIDIO, TEXAS — U.S. Border Patrol agents in the Presidio Sector arrested three Mexican nationals who allegedly crossed into the United States carrying AK‑style rifles and ammunition, according to information released by both the agency and the Department of Homeland Security.
Border Patrol officials said agents encountered the trio shortly after they allegedly illegally entered the country. The individuals were reportedly armed with multiple AK‑type rifles and accompanying ammunition. Agents took all three into custody without injuries to the public or law enforcement.
Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis said the arrests underscore the seriousness of the incident and praised the rapid response by federal and local authorities.
“These illegal aliens from Mexico illegally crossed the border with assault rifles and ammunition,” Bis said in the statement. “Thanks to the swift work of the U.S. Border Patrol and our partner agencies, these three criminals failed to get into our country and will not be able to threaten the American people. Under President Trump’s leadership, our borders are SECURE.”
Homeland Security officials said several agencies assisted in the response and subsequent investigation, including the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the Texas Department of Public Safety, the Presidio County Sheriff’s Office, and the Department of War.
Authorities have not yet released the names of the suspects or additional details about the weapons recovered. The investigation remains ongoing, and federal officials say charges are expected.
