Oak Ridge North, TEXAS – The City of Oak Ridge North has announced the arrest and termination of one of its police officers following an incident involving alleged intoxication while reporting for duty.

According to a city statement, on May 31, 2026, Officer Zachery Castenon arrived at the Oak Ridge North Police Department to begin his shift when another officer detected the odor of alcohol on his person. Castenon had not yet assumed any patrol responsibilities. The observing officer immediately notified a supervisor, who contacted the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) to request an independent investigation.

The city said it is fully cooperating with DPS, which subsequently booked Castenon into the Montgomery County Jail on a charge of Driving While Intoxicated. He is no longer employed by the City of Oak Ridge North.

Officials emphasized that the matter remains under investigation and declined further comment, citing the ongoing criminal process. “The actions of one individual do not reflect the professionalism, integrity, and dedication demonstrated daily by the men and women of the Oak Ridge North Police Department,” the statement read.

Ironically, Castenon had previously been recognized for his efforts in combating impaired driving. On February 13, 2025, the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office hosted the 2024 Vehicular Crimes Awards, honoring law enforcement officers and agencies for exceptional contributions to DWI enforcement. Among those named as Exemplary DWI Officers was Officer Zachary Castanon of the Oak Ridge North Police Department.

The city reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and accountability, commending department personnel for promptly reporting the concern and following established procedures to ensure an independent review.

All arrest constitute allegations and all persons are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
