Alleged Catalytic Converter Thieves Arrested

CONROE, TEXAS — Conroe Police arrested three Houston‑area suspects on September 7 after a fast‑moving investigation connected multiple catalytic converter thefts across several apartment complexes in the city.

Officers were first dispatched to the Abbey Apartments at 231 IH‑45 North for a suspicious‑person call involving individuals possibly stealing catalytic converters. When officers arrived, they learned a red Chevrolet Malibu believed to be involved had already left the property. A catalytic converter was later confirmed stolen from a Toyota Tundra at the location.

Using a network of ALPR cameras, officers located a nearby hit on the red Malibu. Further checks linked the vehicle’s license plate to a August 24 catalytic converter theft at The Towers apartments on FM 1488. Patrol units were immediately notified, and additional data showed the Malibu had recently been in the area of North Loop 336 West.

As officers began searching that area, dispatch received a theft in progress call at Montgomery Park Apartments off North Loop 336 West. Witnesses reported hearing power tools and seeing a red Malibu with several males underneath a truck.

Officers converged on the scene and located the Malibu along with three suspects:

  • Tameka Edwards, 24
  • Ke Andre Felix, 22
  • Antoine Benson, 23

All three were detained. During the investigation, officers recovered reciprocating saws, additional saw blades, multiple catalytic converters, and a Glock 9mm handgun. Officers also discovered a nearby vehicle with its catalytic converter stolen, while a Toyota Tundra showed cut marks consistent with an attempted theft.

Following the investigation, Edwards, Felix, and Benson were arrested and charged with Theft of Catalytic Converter with Firearm, a third‑degree felony. All three are from the Houston area.

Officers later received information indicating the suspects may be connected to additional catalytic converter thefts in Montgomery County. Police noted that from the initial call to the final arrests, the entire incident unfolded within one hour, aided by witness information, ALPR camera data, and coordinated investigative efforts.

The investigation remains ongoing, and no further details have been released. All suspects are innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
