CONROE, TEXAS — A local Conroe woman is now in custody after investigators say she was caught on camera stealing keepsakes and valuables from a cemetery mausoleum earlier this month.

Constable Terry Allbritton’s Strategic Response Unit arrested 37‑year‑old Renee Amber Fennel of Conroe following what officials describe as a lengthy and detailed investigation by Precinct 5 detectives and deputies.

According to investigators, Fennel was identified in surveillance video breaking into niches at a Houston cemetery with her toddler following her during the crime. She was taken into custody Wednesday evening at her home in the 16700 block of North Thrasher Street.

Deputies say the child was with her at the time of the arrest and has since been released to a family member. Fennel is charged with two felony counts: burglary and theft from a graveyard.

Precinct 5 reports she has a lengthy criminal history in Harris County, including prior arrests for forgery, theft, possession of a controlled substance, DWI, and assault.

After her arrest, Fennel was turned over to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office. Investigators say she is being questioned in connection with additional crimes in their jurisdiction.

Authorities credit the Strategic Response Unit for locating Fennel and taking her into custody without incident.
