East Texas Officer Arrested For Allegedly Misusing Flock System
EAST TEXAS — A Lufkin Police officer has been arrested on two felony charges following an investigation into the alleged misuse of the Flock Automated License Plate Reader system, according to a press release from the department.
Zach Klein, an 11 year veteran of the Lufkin Police Department, was taken into custody Thursday morning by the Texas Rangers and booked into the Angelina County Jail on charges of abuse of official capacity and tampering with a government record. Both offenses are state jail felonies, and no bond has been set.
A second officer has been placed on administrative leave as investigators review his use of the technology. The department said it recently became aware of potential issues and immediately launched an audit into all Flock camera activity.
Lufkin Police Chief Travis Brazil requested assistance from the Texas Rangers to conduct an outside investigation while internal affairs continues its own inquiry. Brazil said the department has suspended all use of Flock cameras during the investigation.
The department emphasized that its commitment to transparency with the community remains a top priority. Officials said the investigation is ongoing and no additional information is available at this time.
