Walker County Hospital District To Hold Meeting to Discuss Elections; Two Positions Are Open

HUNTSVILLE, TEXAS — Two executive board positions on the Walker County Hospital District are set to expire this year, and district residents interested in running must submit their applications no later than August 17, 2026. The expiring seats are currently held by Joe Sapp and Stephen Antwi, both of whom reach the end of their terms for 2026.

The district announced the timeline as part of its preparations for the upcoming election, noting that the deadline to officially order the election also falls on August 17.

To address election related business ahead of the deadline, the Hospital District Board has moved its regular monthly meeting to an earlier date. The meeting will be held:

  • Tuesday, August 11, 2026
  • 6:00 PM
  • Blalock Room, 6th Floor
  • First National Bank Building, 1300 11th Street, Huntsville, TX 77340

District officials said the schedule change ensures the Board has adequate time to take any necessary action related to the election process.

Residents considering a run for one of the expiring seats must meet several statutory qualifications. According to the district, candidates:

  • Must be a resident of the district, a qualified elector, and at least 18 years old.
  • Cannot hold another elected or appointed public office of honor, trust, or profit. Anyone seeking a board seat must vacate any such office before serving.
  • Serve without compensation.
  • Must execute the Constitutional Oath of Office when elected and provide a $5,000 bond.

These requirements reflect the district’s emphasis on public accountability and its mission to maintain strong, community‑focused healthcare governance.

With the election order deadline approaching, the Board’s August 11 meeting is expected to be a key step in finalizing the process for the 2026 ballot.

Residents interested in running or learning more about board service can attend the meeting and should contact the district for election application details at: 936-295-0038 or wchd-tx.org
