Fatality Confirmed After Jones Road House Fire in New Waverly

NEW WAVERLY, TEXAS — A tragic discovery has been made following a major residential fire on Jones Road, where firefighters located a deceased victim inside the heavily damaged home early Thursday afternoon.

The New Waverly Fire Department was dispatched shortly after 1 p.m. to reports of a structure fire with an occupant trapped inside. Crews arrived within minutes to find a large two‑story home already engulfed in flames, with thick smoke pouring from the roofline and fire consuming significant portions of the structure.

Firefighters made an immediate interior entry and began searching under extreme and rapidly deteriorating conditions. Portions of the second floor collapsed into the first as crews pushed deeper into the home, working to locate the missing resident while simultaneously battling the fire.

After the blaze was brought under control, additional partner agencies joined New Waverly firefighters in a coordinated search of the structure. Officials confirmed late this afternoon that a victim — believed to be the home’s elderly occupant — was found deceased inside.

The identity of the victim has not yet been released. Investigators are now working to determine the cause of the fire, and crews are expected to remain on scene into the evening as they assess the structure and gather evidence to the cause of the fire.

Authorities earlier today urging the public to avoid the area to keep roadways clear for emergency vehicles.

“Our prayers are with the victim’s grieving family members and friends,” the New Waverly Fire Department said in a statement.
