Final Ride Set for Local Veteran

HUNTSVILLE, Texas — The rumble of motorcycles will carry a different weight on Monday, May 18, as riders from across the region gather to honor the life and service of Placido Christopher “Bravo” Bravo, Jr., a Navy veteran, American Legion Rider, and beloved brother of the road who passed away on May 2 at the age of 56.

What would normally be a weekend ride filled with laughter and camaraderie will instead become a solemn escort—one final mission for a man remembered for loyalty, service, and the unmistakable presence he brought to every mile.

A Final Ride for Brother Bravo

The American Legion Riders Family issued a call this week urging all riders—Legion members, veterans, and anyone who knew Bravo or simply respects the brotherhood of the road—to join in a final escort to carry him to his resting place.

“There are some rides we prepare for with excitement, and others we approach with a heavy heart,” the announcement read. “This is one of the latter.”

Riders will stage at American Legion Sam Houston Post 95, located at 1919 American Legion Drive in Huntsville, between 9:00 and 9:30 a.m. Kickstands go up at 10:00 a.m. sharp, with the procession heading south to the Houston Veterans Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive.

Organizers expect a long line of chrome, leather, and flags—an unmistakable tribute to a man who lived his life in service to others and found his second family on two wheels.

“Bravo stood for the values we hold dear: service, loyalty, and the freedom of the open road,” the Riders’ message continued. “Let’s come together one last time to salute a life well-lived and a rider dearly loved.”

A Community Rallying to Help

In the days following Bravo’s passing, a GoFundMe page created by Sylvia Abbott shifted from supporting him through a difficult period to helping cover his funeral and final expenses.

“We want to give a quick and honest update,” the page stated. “The donations were originally to help Bravo with his bills during a hard time. Now, with heavy hearts, we are asking for that support to help cover his funeral and final expenses.”

Abbott described Bravo as a Navy veteran, a Legion Rider, and a man who meant “a lot to so many people.” The fundraiser emphasizes that any contribution—whether financial or simply sharing the link—helps ensure Bravo receives the farewell he deserves.

“This is now for Bravo’s final ride,” the update reads. “For giving him the goodbye he deserves.”

A Legacy of Service and Brotherhood

Born February 22, 1970, Bravo spent his life serving his country, supporting fellow veterans, and embracing the open road with the American Legion Riders. Friends describe him as steady, loyal, and always willing to help—qualities that earned him deep respect within the riding community.

His final escort will reflect that legacy: a long, thundering line of motorcycles stretching across Texas highways, carrying him home with the dignity and honor he earned.

As the Riders’ message concludes:

“Ride in peace, Brother. We have the watch from here.”
