Huntsville City Council to Hold Special Session Regarding Personnel Matters
HUNTSVILLE, TEXAS — The Huntsville City Council will convene a special session on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at 6 p.m. at the City Hall Complex, 1212 Avenue M, for a closed‑door discussion regarding personnel matters involving City Secretary Kristy Doll. The meeting, called by Mayor Russell Humphrey, will be open to the public for the invocation, pledges, and procedural opening before the Council enters executive session.
City officials listed on the agenda include At‑Large Councilmembers Bert Lyle, Karen Denman, Vicki McKenzie, and Pat Graham, along with Mayor Pro Tem Jon Strong of Ward 4. Ward representatives Tore Fossum, Casey Cox, and Anissa Antwine are also scheduled to attend.
The agenda notes that no more than four councilmembers may participate remotely via videoconference. A quorum will be physically present in the Council Chambers, and the meeting will be viewable both in person and through the city’s social media livestream.
Once the Council moves into executive session, members will consult with City Attorney Robby Chapman under regarding legal matters tied to the appointment, employment, evaluation, reassignment, duties, discipline, or dismissal of City Secretary Kristy Doll.
The upcoming session follows a closed executive meeting held last week in which the Council discussed personnel issues involving Huntsville Police Chief Darryle Slaven. No public action was taken following that meeting regarding Slaven, and the agenda for July 29 does not indicate whether any vote or decision will occur after the latest closed session.
Slavers’ Department has publicly come under fire recently for issues of non transparency. The online publication known as “TDCJ Troll” had published an article criticizing the department’s lack of openness regarding the release of publicly owned records.
