Sasha Kaylice James Indicted For The Murder Of A Huntsville Man

Huntsville, Texas – Sasha Kaylice James, age 20, was indicted for the murder of 54 year old Roderick Wayne Johnson Sr of Huntsville. James allegedly shot Johnson on July 5, 2024 in Huntsville.
Huntsville Police arrested James on July 9th on a warrant for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. James had warrants for felony theft of a firearm from a 2022 alleged offense and an evading arrest charge from 2022.
Roderick Wayne Johnson Sr succumbed to his injuries 11 weeks after the shooting, on September 22, 2024. Four days after Johnson’s death, charges on James were upgraded to murder and a Walker County Grand Jury indicted James for the murder. Huntsville Police Detective Peter Renegar was the lead investigator on the case.
Sasha James is no stranger to area law enforcement. During the July 5, 2024 shooting, James was prohibited from possessing a firearm stimming from her felony probation court order issued on January 4, 2024 from the 278th District Court. After the shooting a motion to revoke James’ felony probation for theft of a firearm was filed on August 16th.
James awaits her October 21st 1:00 PM arraignment before the 278th State District Court in Walker County, while confined to the Walker County Jail on a $80,000 bond. If found guilty James could face 5 to 99 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and a $10,000 fine.
Funeral services for Roderick Wayne Johnson Sr are set for Saturday October 5th at 11:00 AM, at Grace Methodist Church located at 407 Martin Luther King Jr Dr, Huntsville, Texas.
