HUNTSVILLE, Texas — The City of Huntsville has been honored with the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA), marking a significant achievement in governmental financial management and transparency.

The award, announced by GFOA’s Technical Services Center in Chicago, recognizes Huntsville’s commitment to meeting the highest standards of public budgeting. To earn this distinction, the City’s budget document was evaluated against nationally recognized guidelines that measure how effectively it serves as:

  • a policy document
  • a financial plan
  • an operations guide
  • a communications device

Budget submissions must be rated “proficient” in all four categories and meet fourteen mandatory criteria to qualify for the award.

“This recognition reflects the dedication of our staff and leadership to maintaining transparency and accountability in how we plan and manage public funds,” said city officials. “We are proud to be recognized among the top municipalities in North America for excellence in budgeting.”

More than 1,900 governments participate in GFOA’s Budget Awards Program, which highlights entities that set the standard for effective financial communication and planning. Award recipients are featured quarterly on GFOA’s website as examples of best practices in public finance.

The Government Finance Officers Association, headquartered in Chicago, represents over 25,000 members across North America and promotes excellence in government finance through professional development, resources, and research.
