City Council Votes to Retain Recruiting Firm to Find New City Manager

Huntsville, Texas – This week the Huntsville City Council after a closed door session voted to retain a recruiting firm to assist in hiring a new city manager.  The move came swiftly with no discussion from council members after reconvening from the closed door session on personnel matters involving the city manager Aron Kulhavy.  The vote was unanimous. 

The Huntsville City Council during the same meeting approved ordinance 2024-20 to amend the land development code with a new city zoning map.  Councilman Tore Fossum voted against the changes.  The ordinance passed. 

The council also passed ordinance 2024-18, a plan to create a city drainage fee for property owners.   Fees collected for this fund can only be used on drainage projects.  A rate schedule or fee structure hasn’t been set, but a monthly $5 a month fee per residential household is being proposed.  The fee proposal comes after a series of inclement weather events flooded areas of the city.  

During public comments several residents voiced their concerns over poor planning, enforcement, and development.  With city growth, water run off and retention will be a growing issue.
