East Texas Bicyclist Falls in Path of 18-Wheeler
RUSK, TEXAS — The Rusk Police Department is investigating a tragic crash that claimed the life of a local woman Thursday evening in the 1200 block of U.S. Highway 84 near Loop 343.
According to investigators, the crash occurred at approximately 8:50 p.m. when officers were dispatched to a major accident involving a pedestrian.
The preliminary investigation shows that Charlotte Goff, 55, was riding a bicycle when she fell into the roadway at the same moment an 18‑wheeler was passing by. Mrs. Goff was struck by the truck and suffered fatal injuries.
Cherokee County Justice of the Peace Precinct 1, Judge Brenda Dominy, pronounced Mrs. Goff deceased at the scene.
Police say the driver of the 18‑wheeler remained on location and has been fully cooperating with law enforcement. At this stage of the investigation, no criminal charges have been filed.
The Rusk Police Department and the Texas Department of Public Safety, continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
In a statement, the department extended its deepest condolences to the family and friends of Mrs. Goff during this difficult time.
