Three Bedias Predators Sentenced To TDCJ

BEDIAS, TEXAS — Three men have been sentenced to prison following a year long investigation that revealed repeated predatory abuse of a teenage girl in Grimes County, according to District Attorney Andria Bender.

The case began on May 2, 2025, when the Grimes County Sheriff’s Office received a report that a girl between 14 and 16 years old had been predatorially abused. Investigator Cameron Parham launched the investigation and soon identified Brian Keith Manley, 51, as the primary suspect.

Parham determined that Manley had abused the victim at his home and was also allowing two neighbors, Christopher Barnett, 49, and Jody Jernigan, 60 to abuse her. The victim additionally reported that Manley filmed her nude while directing her to engage in predatory acts and instructed her to pretend she was older than her true age.

Due to the complexity of the case, Parham requested assistance from Chief Investigator John Wren, working alongside District Attorney Bender to coordinate search warrants and simultaneous suspect interviews.

On June 18, 2025, investigators executed search warrants at both Manley’s residence and the neighboring Barnett/Jernigan property while interviewing all three suspects.

During those interviews:

  • Jody Jernigan confessed to assaulting the victim with his finger while Manley watched.
  • Christopher Barnett confessed to having improper relationships with the victim on two occasions, also while Manley watched.
  • Manley initially denied involvement, but later admitted to filming the victim and being present during Barnett’s assaults.

Investigators seized Manley’s cell phone, obtained a search warrant, and had ICAC Investigator Renee Rhinefort extract its contents. A deleted video was recovered showing the victim engaged in improper conduct while Manley directed her off camera. A family member later confirmed Manley’s voice in the recording.

All three suspects were arrested the same day after County Court at Law Judge Tuck McLain issued arrest warrants.

Court Proceedings

More than a year later, the defendants entered guilty pleas:

  • August 4, 2026: Barnett pled guilty before 12th District Judge David Moorman and agreed to testify against Manley and Jernigan.
  • August 10, 2026: Manley pled guilty before Judge Moorman and was sentenced.
  • August 13, 2026: Jernigan pled guilty before 506th District Judge Gary Chaney and received his sentence.
  • August 13, 2026: Barnett was formally sentenced.

Assistant District Attorney Tammy Thomas prosecuted all three defendants.

District Attorney Andria Bender praised the collaboration between agencies, saying the case demonstrates “what happens when our local law enforcement agencies and the prosecutor’s office work hand in hand for the common good of serving the community and obtaining justice for victims.”

She commended Investigator Parham, Chief Investigator Wren, Texas Ranger Chris Rainwater, ADA Tammy Thomas, and Crime Victims personnel Brenda Williams and Gilverta Diaz for their roles in bringing the case to a successful resolution.
