Horse Shot and Killed In Walker County; Owner Offers $10,000 Reward For Justice

HUNTSVILLE, TEXAS — A Walker County man is asking for the public’s help after his 22‑year‑old horse was shot and killed in a rural pasture off Davis Road near Huntsville. The incident occurred sometime during the late night hours of July 1 and the early morning of July 2, 2026.

Randy Wright, the horse’s owner, said his gelding, named Socks and affectionately known as “Three Socks”, was healthy, gentle, and showed no signs of distress before the shooting. Wright discovered the horse dead in its pasture and believes the act was intentional.

Wright publicly announced a $10,000 cash reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whoever is responsible. He urged residents in the Davis Road area to review any overnight footage from July 1–2, including trail cameras, home security systems, and Ring doorbells for suspicious vehicles or activity.

He also asked community members to come forward if they overheard conversations or noticed anything unusual related to the incident. Wright said tipsters may remain anonymous and asked anyone with information to contact him directly through private message.

The killing has drawn strong reactions from local residents and horse owners across Walker County, many of whom have shared Wright’s plea in hopes of identifying a suspect.

Livestock shootings are treated as serious criminal offenses in Texas, and investigators often rely on community submitted footage and tips in rural areas.

Wright said he is determined to find answers and bring justice for Socks, calling the horse’s death “heartbreaking” and “senseless.”
