Walker County Officer Involved Shooting

Riverside, TX- On Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at approximately 7:25PM, Walker County Public Safety Communications received a call regarding a suicidal individual armed with a firearm in the 100 block of Twin Creek Drive.

Upon arrival, deputies encountered the individual, who was reportedly in a state of crisis. Deputies engaged in communication to de-escalate the situation for over an hour. Unfortunately, the situation escalated, leading to the deputies discharging their firearms.

Emergency medical personnel from Walker County EMS provided first aid; however, the individual was pronounced deceased at the scene by Justice of the Peace Precinct Three, Judge Randy Jeffcoat.

In accordance with department policy, the deputies involved in the incident have been placed on administrative leave. The names of the deputies and the individual involved are being withheld pending further investigation.

The Texas Department of Public Safety, Texas Rangers Division, is currently handling the investigation into the incident.
