Huntsville, Texas – Over $156,000 in bonds were set on one of the suspects accused of attempting to strike police officers with a vehicle, as the officers attempted to apprehend them.
Houston resident Sergio Giovannie Sanfilippo, Jr, age 26, was booked into the Walker County Jail on charges of aggravated assault against a public servant, felony theft over $30,000 under $150,000, and evading arrest / detention.
Friday morning the Huntsville Police Department stated in a press release they had an officer involved shooting.
At around 2:27 AM Friday, Huntsville officers responded to a report of suspicious activity at the Bill Fick Ford dealership, located at 737 Interstate 45.
The dealership’s monitored surveillance system picked up suspicious activity and police quickly responded. Officers upon arriving allegedly found two suspects stealing taillights off trucks in the lot.
According to one person we talked to, those particular taillights can cost up to $1,200 a piece, due to the anti collision sensor in some of them.
According to the Huntsville Police the suspects fled to their vehicle as officers approached. The officers attempted to detain them, when the fleeing driver allegedly steered the getaway car toward the officers who were on foot. At this point police say an officer “engaged the subjects”. It is unknown if the suspect driver was hit.
The suspects fled south bound on the Interstate 45 feeder road and ended up entering the Huntsville State Park, where they fled on foot into the woods.
The passenger identified as Sergio Giovannie Sanfilippo, Jr was quickly apprehended, but the driver fled into the woods. San Filippo is facing a third degree felony theft and evading arrest / detention. He was also charged as a coconspirator for aggravated assault against a public servant.
Tracking K9’s from Montgomery County and TDCJ were dispatched to the scene, but were unable to locate the driver.
The suspect driver is described as a Hispanic male, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, and black shorts. The suspect possibly has a tattoo underneath the outside of his right eye.
Police state there is no indication that the suspects were armed, and they do not believe there is any continuing threat to the community. Police have not released any of the surveillance video of the suspects.
