SOUTHEAST, TEXAS — The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office is recognizing its Public Information Officer, Taylor Justice, after she received first place in the Best Digital News Story category at the Press Club of Southeast Texas’ 35th Annual Excellence in the Media & Newsmaker of the Year Awards Gala.

Justice previously worked as a reporter for KFDM News before joining the Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff Chuck Havard said her background in journalism has continued to support the agency’s efforts to keep the public informed and maintain transparency about law‑enforcement activity in Jasper County.

“Her background in journalism continues to be a valuable asset as we work to keep the citizens of Jasper County informed, promote transparency and share the important work being done by our deputies and staff,” Havard said in the written announcement.

The recognition comes at a time when public communication practices among law enforcement agencies have been a topic of discussion in the region. Some community members and media observers have raised concerns about inconsistent information sharing, limited public information staffing, and the lack of accessible communication channels at certain agencies.

Timely and open communication help residents stay informed about public safety matters and strengthens trust between agencies and the communities they serve. Elections have consequences when it comes to public opinion and perception. Maintaining good relations with the community involves open communications. Pretending crime doesn’t exist come election time will only get you replaced.

The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office maintains an active public‑ nformation presence through social media and publicly issued press releases. Justice’s award highlights the department’s ongoing efforts to provide regular updates and maintain open communication with residents.
