Judge Travis Kitchens, Jr. ordered the sentences to run concurrently. Under Texas law, Zawodny will also be required to register as a sex offender.

The case began in 2022 following a lengthy investigation by the Trinity County Sheriff’s Office in partnership with the Texas Attorney General’s Child Exploitation Unit. The investigation was initiated after authorities received information from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Sheriff Woody Wallace said protecting children remains one of the department’s highest priorities and thanked investigators, prosecutors, and the Attorney General’s Office for their work in bringing the case to a conclusion.

Sheriff Wallace acknowledged that some members of the public may feel the sentence should have been longer but noted that child‑exploitation cases are often far more complex than they appear. According to the Sheriff’s Office, the case presented significant evidentiary challenges, and prosecutors must always evaluate the likelihood of obtaining a conviction at trial. In many cases involving child exploitation, victims are unidentified or unwilling to testify, making prosecution more difficult. Officials said prosecutors must sometimes balance the risk of an acquittal against securing a guaranteed conviction and prison sentence. While the sentence may not satisfy everyone, the Sheriff’s Office emphasized that a conviction was obtained, the defendant will serve time in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, and he will be required to register as a sex offender.

The Sheriff’s Office stated it is thankful justice was served and reiterated its commitment to protecting the children of Trinity County.

The Trinity County Sheriff’s Office said it remains committed to protecting children and holding those who exploit them accountable.

Zawodny Sentenced to 10 Years in TDCJ on Child‑Exploitation Charges GROVETON, TEXAS — Timothy Zawodny was sentenced to 10 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice in the 258th District Court after being convicted on three felony child‑exploitation charges.
