{"id":1762,"date":"2026-07-21T18:32:16","date_gmt":"2026-07-21T18:32:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hvhappens.com\/?p=1762"},"modified":"2026-07-21T18:32:18","modified_gmt":"2026-07-21T18:32:18","slug":"huntsville-man-will-serve-40-years-in-tdcj-for-murder","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hvhappens.com\/index.php\/2026\/07\/21\/huntsville-man-will-serve-40-years-in-tdcj-for-murder\/","title":{"rendered":"Huntsville Man Will Serve 40 Years In TDCJ For Murder"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>HUNTSVILLE, TEXAS \u2014 A murder case that has gripped Huntsville for more than a year reached its conclusion late Monday, when Deonte Walker pleaded guilty and received a 40 year sentence in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Walker, now 18, entered the guilty plea in the 278th District Court before State District Judge Tracy Sorensen, avoiding a jury trial that had been scheduled to begin next Monday. The plea agreement and sentencing were completed late yesterday afternoon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prosecutors confirmed that Walker accepted responsibility for the March 7, 2025 shooting death of Tyrese O\u2019Bryant at the Quick Pic convenience store on MLK Drive in Huntsville. The fatal shooting prompted a multi agency manhunt that ended with Walker\u2019s arrest eleven days later at an apartment near FM 1960 and Mills Road in North Houston.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since March 18, 2025, Walker has remained in the Walker County Jail on a $500,000 bond, where he awaited trial until entering yesterday\u2019s plea. He will now be transferred to TDCJ to begin serving his 40 year sentence.
