PRESIDIO, TEXAS \u2014 U.S. Border Patrol agents in the Presidio Sector arrested three Mexican nationals who allegedly crossed into the United States carrying AK\u2011style rifles and ammunition, according to information released by both the agency and the Department of Homeland Security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Border Patrol officials said agents encountered the trio shortly after they allegedly illegally entered the country. The individuals were reportedly armed with multiple AK\u2011type rifles and accompanying ammunition. Agents took all three into custody without injuries to the public or law enforcement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis said the arrests underscore the seriousness of the incident and praised the rapid response by federal and local authorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThese illegal aliens from Mexico illegally crossed the border with assault rifles and ammunition,\u201d Bis said in the statement. \u201cThanks to the swift work of the U.S. Border Patrol and our partner agencies, these three criminals failed to get into our country and will not be able to threaten the American people. Under President Trump\u2019s leadership, our borders are SECURE.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Homeland Security officials said several agencies assisted in the response and subsequent investigation, including the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the Texas Department of Public Safety, the Presidio County Sheriff\u2019s Office, and the Department of War.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
