BOWIE COUNTY, TEXAS \u2014 Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) inmate Tre Lee Jackson has been sentenced to life in prison plus 120 years for his role in what investigators describe as a large\u2011scale, years\u2011long contraband trafficking operation inside the Telford Unit in Bowie County.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A Bowie County jury convicted Jackson on three counts of engaging in organized criminal activity, along with additional charges including money laundering, bribery, and possession of prohibited items and substances in a correctional facility. The offenses were tied to a broader criminal network operating inside and around the prison.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
TDCJ Executive Director Bobby Lumpkin said the sentence reflects the agency\u2019s commitment to protecting the integrity of its facilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis conviction sends a clear message: individuals who attempt to undermine the safety and security of our facilities will be held fully accountable,\u201d Lumpkin said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The charges stem from a sweeping investigation led by the Office of Inspector General (OIG), which found that Jackson was one of several inmates involved in smuggling contraband into the Telford Unit between June 2020 and June 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Investigators also arrested seven Telford Unit staff members, accusing them of participating in the same organized criminal activity. In total, authorities say 22 additional defendants are still facing prosecution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
OIG Inspector General Lance Coleman said the case represents a major step forward in dismantling corruption within the prison system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe are dedicated to rooting out corruption wherever it exists,\u201d Coleman said. \u201cThis conviction represents a substantial achievement for our agency and establishes a strong foundation for the continued prosecutorial actions against the additional 22 defendants.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
