MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TEXAS – A Montgomery County man has been arrested and formally indicted after investigators say he allegedly administered an abortion\u2011inducing drug to a pregnant woman without her knowledge or consent, causing the death of her unborn child earlier this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The case began on February 21, 2026, when Montgomery County Sheriff\u2019s Office (MCSO) Deputies responded to a hospital in The Woodlands for a woman experiencing a miscarriage under suspicious circumstances. The victim told deputies she believed the father of her baby had covertly given her a drug intended to terminate the pregnancy. The child, whom the mother named Presley Mae, was stillborn at the hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Detectives with the MCSO Major Crimes Unit, the Montgomery County District Attorney\u2019s Office, Crime Scene Investigators, and the Montgomery County Medical Examiner\u2019s Office launched an extensive investigation. According to investigators, the suspect \u2014 Jon Rueben Gabriel Demeter, 25, of Spring had repeatedly attempted to persuade the mother to obtain an abortion, including offering to pay for out\u2011of\u2011state travel. The mother declined each time, stating she intended to carry the pregnancy to term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Detectives allege Demeter later obtained abortion medication and surreptitiously administered it to the victim without her knowledge or consent, resulting in the death of the unborn child and serious bodily injury to the mother.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Demeter was arrested on February 23, 2026, and initially charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon Causing Serious Bodily Injury \u2013 Family Violence. He was booked into the Montgomery County Jail with no bond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sheriff Wesley Doolittle commended the investigative team, saying the Sheriff\u2019s Office \u201cremains with the mother and her family as they mourn the loss of Presley Mae.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On May 20, 2026, the Montgomery County District Attorney\u2019s Office announced that a Montgomery County grand jury returned two felony indictments against Demeter following the months\u2011long investigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the indictments, prosecutors allege Demeter administered a \u201csubstance, drug, medicine, or other means\u201d to the pregnant woman in February 2026 without her knowledge or consent, causing the death of the unborn child and resulting in serious bodily injury.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The case has been filed in the 221st District Court, Judge Lisa Michalk presiding. Chief Prosecutor Laura Hill is leading the prosecution, and Detective Brandon Bartoskewitz served as the lead investigator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
District Attorney Mike Holley said the allegations reflect deliberate deception with devastating consequences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe Montgomery County District Attorney\u2019s Office will continue to pursue justice based on the facts, the evidence, and the laws of the State of Texas,\u201d Holley said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Chief Prosecutor Hill emphasized the seriousness of the conduct described in the indictments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThese allegations describe conduct that is both deeply troubling and profoundly harmful,\u201d Hill said. \u201cWe remain committed to ensuring this case is prosecuted with the seriousness and diligence it deserves.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Officials acknowledged the significant public attention surrounding the case and encouraged anyone with additional information to contact the Montgomery County Sheriff\u2019s Office. Because the prosecution is ongoing, authorities declined to discuss evidence beyond what is contained in the indictments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
