Vernon Man Sentenced to 30 Years in Federal Prison for Third Conviction for Crimes Against Children<\/p>\n\n\n\n
PLANO, Texas \u2014 A North Texas man with two prior federal child\u2011pornography convictions has been sentenced to 30 years in federal prison, according to the U.S. Attorney\u2019s Office for the Eastern District of Texas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Keanu Deavan Wesley Ortiz, 32, of Vernon, pleaded guilty to distribution of child pornography and received a 360\u2011month sentence from U.S. District Judge J. Campbell Barker on May 11, 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to court information, Ortiz was on federal supervision in the fall of 2024 after being released from the Bureau of Prisons for a previous child\u2011pornography conviction. While under supervision, he began communicating online with another convicted sex offender. During those conversations, Ortiz discussed his sexual interest in children and child\u2011abuse material.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Prosecutors said Ortiz later distributed multiple child\u2011pornography videos to the other offender, who was located within the Eastern District of Texas. The videos depicted prepubescent girls, including infants and toddlers being subjected to violent abuse. Ortiz admitted that he distributed the material between September 2024 and April 2025 and acknowledged that the crimes occurred in and affected interstate and foreign commerce.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This marks Ortiz\u2019s third federal conviction for child offenses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Marisa Miller.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Federal officials noted that the prosecution is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide Department of Justice initiative launched in 2006 to combat child exploitation and abuse by coordinating federal, state, and local investigative resources.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
