{"id":1073,"date":"2026-05-08T19:06:27","date_gmt":"2026-05-08T19:06:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hvhappens.com\/?p=1073"},"modified":"2026-05-08T19:14:09","modified_gmt":"2026-05-08T19:14:09","slug":"nine-arrested-in-multi-agency-crackdown-on-alleged-prison-contraband-network","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hvhappens.com\/index.php\/2026\/05\/08\/nine-arrested-in-multi-agency-crackdown-on-alleged-prison-contraband-network\/","title":{"rendered":"Nine Arrested in Multi-Agency Crackdown on Alleged Prison Contraband Network"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>By Staff Writer<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>HUNTSVILLE, Texas &#8211; Nine people were arrested across Houston, San Antonio and East Texas following a months-long investigation into what officials describe as a large-scale criminal operation responsible for smuggling contraband \u2014 including illegal narcotics \u2014 into a Texas state prison.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Texas Board of Criminal Justice&#8217;s Office of Inspector General (OIG), working alongside federal, state and local law enforcement agencies, announced the arrests after uncovering an organized effort to deliver contraband into the Memorial Unit throughout 2025. Investigators say the suspects used several methods to bypass security, including drones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Across the country, departments of corrections are fighting tirelessly to stop contraband from entering its facilities. Texas is no different,&#8221; Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Executive Director Bobby Lumpkin said in the announcement. He added that the agency is expanding detection capabilities, strengthening treatment and recovery programs, and coordinating closely with OIG and the Special Prosecution Unit to hold offenders accountable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All nine suspects face charges of engaging in organized criminal activity and money laundering:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Jose Pena, currently on parole for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, booked into Montgomery County Jail<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Anesha Reed-Roberts, former correctional officer, booked into Brazoria County Jail<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Maria Pena, booked into Brazoria County Jail<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Josielynn Carpio, booked into Bexar County Jail<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Juliet Janice, booked into Orange County Jail<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Amber Morillon, booked into Brazoria County Jail<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Jennifer Rivera, booked into Bexar County Jail<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Amelia Enriquez, booked into Bexar County Jail<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Maritza Robles, booked into Nueces County Jail<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Inspector General Lance Coleman said the arrests reflect a broader push to disrupt criminal networks operating inside and outside prison walls. &#8220;We have heightened efforts to deter, detect and disrupt the flow of contraband and illegal narcotics from entering TDCJ facilities,&#8221; Coleman said. &#8220;We will not tolerate these criminal networks and bad actors profiting off the lives of those in our custody!&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The operation involved assistance from the U.S. Marshals Service \u2014 including the Gulf Coast Violent Offender and Fugitive Task Force and the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force \u2014 as well as the Texas Department of Public Safety, Conroe Police Department, Harris County Sheriff&#8217;s Office, Port Arthur Police Department and Orange Police Department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Authorities have not released additional details about the scale of the alleged smuggling operation or whether further arrests are expected.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Staff Writer HUNTSVILLE, Texas &#8211; Nine people were arrested across Houston, San Antonio and East Texas following a months-long investigation into what officials describe as a large-scale criminal operation responsible for smuggling contraband \u2014 including illegal narcotics \u2014 into a Texas state prison.
